5 Common Moving Myths Debunked!

“To get rid of some relocation myths, kindly give this blog a good read now”.

When it comes to relocation, people will tell you a lot of things. And some of them would be some common myths as well.

I was associated with one of the best moving companies in Chicago and thus, I know of those silly misconceptions that people have.

Do not fall into the trap and get your information from only authentic sites and blogs. To get rid of those stupid myths, kindly give the rest of this blog a good read.

It’s cheaper to move yourself

The first thing that people will tell you is that moving by yourself is cheaper than hiring movers and packers. Well, this is not at all true. If you are moving by yourself, you not only have to pay separately for packing materials, trucks, etc., but you will also not get any kind of insurance. You won’t be able to get updates from the truck driver as well. He is not at all liable if any kind of damage happens to your belongings. Moreover, you have to pay for fuel, vehicle insurance, toll taxes, moving tools, meals on the way, et al. You can even get hurt while doing all the lifting and moving. So that can lead to medical bills! If your friends are helping you to pack, you have to pay for their meals and beverages as well. So you see it is not at all cheaper.

All movers and packers are after your money

I have seen a lot of people stay away from movers and packers simply because they think that all of them are after your money. And they would also tell you that all the moving companies are the same. But this is yet again a huge mistake! Just like other business lines, fraudulent companies prevail in this service line as well. But that doesn’t mean that all the companies are bad and after your money. Make sure that the company you are choosing have 5-star ratings, have good customer reviews, is insured and licensed and provide a wide range of services.

And yes, don’t commit the mistake of hiring movers just because they have quoted the cheapest bid. Do your research instead – ask friends for recommendations, check the company’s complaint histories and ratings, etc.

Any carton would do

Go for same sized cartons (So that it is easier to stack them) and make sure that they are of high quality. Do not settle for cheap boxes. You can get these boxes from friends or family members who have recently moved.

Pro tip: To save money on packing materials, use your old blankets, towels, old t-shirts, etc.

There is no need to take inventory

Another myth that you will come across is that there is no need to take inventory because the movers would be taking it. So what? Why blindly believe the same when you have so many items? Take your own inventory so that you can tally with theirs later. Trust me; this is something that you must do. Taking inventory would ensure that you are signing up for a practical and systematic manner.

If you have a clear idea of your items, you will also be able to estimate the weight of the shipment, get a clue of the final Chicago movers cost, etc.

Movers will move everything

Lastly, do not commit the mistake of thinking that movers will move everything. They will not! They don’t move items due to ethical, safety or legal causes. Get rid of items like chemicals, explosive items, liquor, perishable food items, etc. before the movers arrive.

So follow these tips and you are good to go. Thank me later!
