Erectile dysfunction also known as ED for short, means there is an unpredictable or non-existent ability to get an erection. If there is an erection it is only for a short period of time.

Up to 30 million men have visited their doctor for erectile dysfunction problems to help find the cause. Older men, especially, may have had an injury or illness, or perhaps experience a side effect from a medication they are taking for some other health problem unrelated to erectile dysfunction.

If there has been an injury involving nerve damage or blood flowing to the penis, there may be possible symptoms of ED. In high doses it can cause excessive stomach acid production, so do not take it if you have ulcers or acid reflux.

Gingko biloba can also increase blood flow to the penis. And everyone has heard of oysters as an aphrodisiac. This is because they contain high amounts of zinc. Zinc is responsible for tissue repair and the proper functioning of cellular metabolism. The many enzymes in the body depend on zinc to help critical chemical reactions proceed. Zinc helps protect cells, tells the body when to release hormones, and plays a key role in nerve impulses.

Smoking, alcohol, and certain drugs, whether prescribed or recreational, can affect your ability to get an erection, so you may want to abstain or reduce use until the problem can be corrected.

There are also exercises, believe it or not, that have been proven in studies to aid in the treatment of erectile dysfunction. Regular exercise can help us all with many health-related problems, but targeted exercise will improve blood flow, produce lasting erections, and increase endurance!
