Trust me when I say, most of us have put on some of the “pandemic weight” coming out of this lockdown. This lockdown has got us working from the cozy comforts of our home; eating junk food for days together without a healthy meal in between and lagging out on physical work and workouts at the gym.
All this has taken a turn for the worst. Working from home need not be so bad, in fact, there are ways to turn this around by including a home workout—baking healthy goodies with a KitchenAid mixer in your own kitchen rather than buying sugar-laden sweets and also eating a healthy meal prepared by yourself and taking a walk with your pet from time to time. All this has positive effects on our health and can even help you lose weight right at home.
Tips to better your WFH routine
There are many different things that you can do to improve your fitness as well as lose some weight in the process. Mind you; they are not the same. Being fit and being overweight are two different things. We need to focus on being fit, and weight loss is just an added benefit to this process.
Here are some tips to concentrate your fitness and WFH routine –
- Include breaks
One of the main problems with the work from home culture is that they seldom remember to take breaks. Breaks are necessary for the body as sitting for long hours tends to decrease body metabolism and does not help with posture or digestion. Take a break every 2 to 3 hours for a quick 10 mins to get some water, take a quick walk across your home, pet your dog/cat, talk to your family for a bit. This tends to add so much energy and does lots to your body and mind.
- Start or end your day with a workout.
It is best to include a home workout with minimal equipment such as dumbbells and try to work out at least 30 mins a day. If you are someone who works from early morning to evening, you can opt for a late evening workout. In either case, it is tremendously rewarding to include a 30min workout each day. Just a few mins of cardio or a brisk walk or swimming or even cycling can do wonders in losing weight
- Cook your meals and snacks
One of the best methods to lose weight is to cook yourself meals and goodies to munch rather than buying from outside. Make yourself a healthy salad once a day and cook your favourite soup. If you crave dessert, make your cupcakes, muffins, fudgy brownies or cookies with alternative sweeteners using common kitchen equipment such as a KitchenAid Mixer.
Food from outside tends to be greasy, oily, cheesy and sugary. Therefore, it is best to cook yourself a meal or bake your own goodies instead of eating outside. Limit take-outs to once or twice a week, and you could see your waistline shrinking and your wallet and bank account gaining weight.
These are some tips to lose the lockdown weight without actually putting in a lot of efforts from the comfort of your home.
