Pregnancy Test: Signs You Should Take One

A pregnancy test is definitely the best way to check if you are pregnant or not. Most of the pregnancy tests actually test your urine. They try to find a hormone known as human chorionic gonadotropin (HCH) in your urine. If HCG is pregnant, then you are definitely pregnant. But, most of the women’s get confused about when to take a pregnancy test.

There are many early signs of pregnancy. Just go through this checklist and see how many symptoms are getting matched with your current state. If you have observed most of the signs, then you should take a pregnancy test.

  1.    Missed Period.

The most common reason why women’s take a pregnancy test is due to missed periods. It is the most earliest and reliable signs of early pregnancy.

Most of the women have a 28-day menstrual cycle. Thus, you can easily track your due date. If your period cycle is irregular, then missed periods can give you a wrong sign also. Sometimes your cycle gets delayed due to medical conditions, unbalanced diet, stress, and excessive exercise.

Thus, first, you have to make sure that you actually missed a period. Try to wait for at least till one week after your period’s due date. If your periods don’t start after a week, then you must take a pregnancy test. In some cases even after 1-2 missed periods, you might receive a negative pregnancy test.  The main reason for this is low hormone levels in your body. Thus, you should try again after a few days.

  1.    Your breast becomes swollen.

In pregnancy, there is a rapid rise in the production of certain hormones like progesterone and estrogen. These hormones will start making various changes to your body. Your breasts will become swollen and sore because of them. Also, your breasts will feel heavier. These changes are required to support your baby’s growth. Your breast may become more sensitive due to these changes and your nipple may become darker. This is also a very early and common sign of pregnancy.

  1.    Cramps and light bleeding.

Cramps, light bleeding, and spotting are a few very early signs of pregnancy. This happens due to the implantation bleeding. In this, there is light bleeding due to many hormonal changes in your body.

This happens only during early pregnancy. You might think that your period is about to start. But, they will never start. Thus, this is one of the most prominent signs of early pregnancy. You won’t notice heavy bleeding which is observed during your regular periods. Some people confuse the implantation bleeding with period bleeding. But, they are two completely different processes. The implantation process mostly occurs one week before your period’s due date. If you are noticing pink spots or little bleeding before your menstrual cycle, then you are most probably pregnant.

  1.    Nausea and morning sickness.

Nausea with or without vomiting is the most common symptom of early pregnancy. It starts after the 2nd week of conception. The main reason for morning sickness is the increasing level of progesterone and estrogen levels in your body. As these hormones level increase, you start feeling Nausea. Nausea can occur at any time of the day. It is not limited to the morning time only.

  1.    Food cravings.

Food craving or aversion is another very common symptom of early pregnancy. Sometimes this symptom persists throughout all the cycles of pregnancy. You might crave for food items which have a sour taste or for ice cream.

  1.    Mood Swings.

Mood Swings is another very common symptom of pregnancy. Most people experience similar mood swings during their periods also. Thus, they might confuse these mood swings with period mood swings.

The main reason for these mood swings is the increased level of estrogen in your body. You might become more emotional and reactive because of these mood swings. These mood swings can also cause anxiety, depression, and irritability. Try to do regular yoga and stay calm if you are having mood swings.

  1.    Missed or Failed contraception.

If you are sexually active and still missed contraception, then you must take a pregnancy test. Most of the birth control options like condoms, pills and other contraceptive device are very effective in preventing pregnancy. But, even they can’t provide 100% protection from pregnancy. Sometimes a broken condom can be the reason for your pregnancy.
